Lee Askew

Lead Mechanic - High End Bike Specialist

We were extremely excited to have Lee Askew, former Head Mechanic for Canyon DHB pro-race team, join Handlebars for our launch in 2019.

Lee started working on bikes as a youngster and learned the ropes in local bike workshop. As someone who loved working with his hands, he decided to then pursue a successful career as a chef, but the passion for bikes never left him...

Through building up an excellent reputation working on high-end bikes in South West London, Lee was offered the opportunity to work for Canyon DHB where he consistently helped the make sure the  bikes were in race-winning condition.

Lee can now be found at the Handlebars workshops and specialises in helping make sure high-end bikes ride and perform to perfection.

Lee's Bikes

Needless to say - Lee has quite a few bikes...

I’m lucky enough to have an ex team race bike which is a Canyon black Aeroad SLX, with Dura ace Mechanical groupset and Hunt wheels. It is full race spec and it FLIES.

Favourite BMX is PK Ripper bare alloy.

Favourite MTB is Klein Attitude comp, pink white green fade.

Absolutely amazing service, the best I've ever received in any bike shop in 5 years of riding in London. You can tell that Lee really cares and wants to give the best possible experience to his customers. He takes the time to explain which is something I've never experienced either.

The wonderful Lee did a world-class service on my bike, got it back to show-room standard, the attention to detail and customer service is 10/10.

A word from Lee

For the last 3 years I was the head mechanic for Canyon DHB, travelling all over Europe, racing in the Tour of Britain and the Tour de Yorkshire and going as far afield as  the Tour of Kazakhstan! It was the most crazy time of my life... from being the super geek fan screaming at the TV, to actually being the guy you see on the TV hanging out the car window fixing a bike in the race, to literally meeting your idols on a daily basis, having a beer with Geraint Thomas and breakfast with Cav. It was a great experience and also meant I got to work on £8000 bikes every day! I'm now the first mechanic brought onto Handlebars and I'm stoked to be helping spread my expertise amongst other mechanics & be able to work on a whole range of different bikes.

Love peace and bicycle grease.
